Resins usually originates from viscous substances of plant and it is one of the commonly found in clear to translucent yellow or brown colors and solid or semisolid substance. Resins are widely used in inks, lacquers, adhesives, varnishes, pharmaceuticals and synthetic plastics. In other words, Resin is any of numerous physically similar polymerized synthetics or chemically modified natural resins including thermoplastic materials such as polyvinyl, polystyrene, and polyethylene and thermosetting materials such as polyesters, epoxies, and silicones etc.
The varieties of resins are used with fillers, stabilizers, pigments and other components to form plastics. Some of the special resins are obtained from a fossilized condition the example of which is amber. Amber is one of the notable epitome of this class. African copal and the kauri gum of New Zealand are also procured in a semi-fossil condition.
