Catalysts The word catalyst basically has its origin from Greece the meaning of which is annul or pick up or untie. In relation to biology and chemistry the meaning of catalysis signifies acceleration or curtailment of chemical reaction to any material or substance, what we term as catalyst. Catalyst plays a crucial role in reduction of activation energy of a chemical response. Catalysts are only known for their participation in the catalysis though catalyst neither a reactants nor products for the reaction curtailment. More precisely we can state catalysts as a material which is generally used in little bit small amounts relative to the reactants. Catalyst modifies and enhances the rate of a reaction without being consumed in the entire process. Catalyst are those substance which precipitates a process or event, especially without being involved in or changed by the consequences. |
