Chemical Engineering

Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with technology of large-scale chemical production and the manufacturing of products through chemical processes. Chemical engineering is concerned with the design, construction and operation of the plants and machinery used in chemical industry.

Though chemical engineering originated primarily in England but it saw it's real development in America. Chemical engineering contributed heavily in the development of petroleum and heavy-chemical industries in America. Further chemical engineering was used in the production of plastics, synthetic rubber, and synthetic fibers etc. Chemical engineering is widely applied in various areas like biotechnology, energy, food processing, microelectronics, and pharmaceutical industries etc. chemical engineers are primarily responsible for doing all the work in this area.

The area and function of chemical engineering is much more diverse than just process engineering in the modern technological area. It is responsible for the development and production of a diverse range of products and chemicals which are used in various industries like automotive, aerospace, biomedical, electronic, environmental and space and military applications. Conservation of mass, conservation of momentum and conservation of energy are the primary physical laws underlying chemical engineering design.
